Curriculum

Andrea Calderaro is a PHD candidate at the department of Social and Political Sciences of the European University Institute (EUI), Italy. He took his BA in Sociology at the University “La Sapienza” of Rome, Italy. He was a “visiting researcher” at the California Institute of Technology (CalTech, USA), and he has run his research activities also at the Oxford Internet Institute (University of Oxford, UK) and at the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Science Sociales (EHESS, France).

After having studied informatics and electronics, he addressed his interests in his undergraduate studies in Sociology - division of Socio-Anthropology and Development Studies. Currently, his research focuses on the democratization of technologies through a customization of their usage.

As guest lecturer at the University “La Sapienza” of Rome, he focused on the political use of digital technologies by social movements and digital cultures. His publications explore the issues of the Digital Divide and the relationship between New Media and Politics (See more).

He is associate editor of the “International Journal of E-Politics” (IJEP), for which he has co-edited the inaugural issue on “E-Politics in a global Context”. He is a member of several conference program committees, such as the Journal of Information Technology & Politics Conference: “The Politics of Open Source”. He has been speaker and panel chair at the International Communication Association (ICA), International Studies Association (ISA), the American Political Science Association (APSA), the European Consortium of Political Research (ECPR) and the Association of Internet Researches (AoIR).
